Panettiere to launch music career

Heroes star Hayden Panettiere is to release her debut single in August.

'Wake Up Call', the first song from the 18-year-old's forthcoming album, will be available as a digital download.

Panetierre, who plays Claire Bennet in the NBC drama, landed a record deal before she started work on the show.

Hollywood Records' Ken Bunt told Billboard: "We had to work within her crazy schedule to determine what direction she wants to go with her music.

"'Wake Up Call' is a reggae-flavoured pop song that was written by Andreas 'Quiz' Romdhane and Josef Larossi, who have previously written tracks for Geri Halliwell, Diana Ross, Il Divo and Westlife."

The 18-year-old previously signed a deal with fashion brand Candie's, who will fund "the majority of the cost" of the song's ad campaign and video.
